Nobody never imgine, that millons years ago the imponents Cajón del Maipo Hills were under the sea, making part of an old marine layer., which until these days we can find evidence.

The first people who lived in these lands were the Chiquillanes indians, who lived in today’s San Gabriel Village. There have been found some vestige of the Inca culture. Prove of this, is the  mommi found in El plomo hill, which now is part of the Museum`s of  History collection.

San José de Maipo, is the disctrit city. Was founded because of the need to settle some miner communities which were in the area, working on the first country’s silver mine, “San Pedro de Nolasco”,which erned capital gains

Those days Chile’s governor, Mister Ambrosio O’Higgins, knowing this nececity, on July 16th of 1792 as a King of Spain order, found Villa de San José de Maipo, which later on was named Villa Alta and now on days we know as San José de Maipo.
